OUR MISSION
Our mission is to promote the
social and economic progress of people in developing regions of South Africa by
marketing their products in a just and direct manner.
Prior to the startup of Alldays Trading, the impoverished South African women we
employ were living in mud huts; and, all of those without running water. We
provide
them with a safe work environment, housing with running water, food and
clothing. In providing them an income, they have the opportunity to improve
their lifestyle which enables them to better support their families and become
more self-sufficient. By teaching a good work ethic along with the respect and
appreciation for a job, they gain values that greatly improve their own lives
giving them a brighter future for themselves, their families and the community
alike. We strive to continue making improvements to benefit our employees as
well as the entire community in which we live and work. Alldays Trading and its
employees work together to help each other solve problems allowing us to provide
a stronger voice in the community.
OUR STORY
Alldays
Trading took its name from the small community of Alldays, South Africa where
its hanging chairs are hand crafted on our ranch by native South African women.
Our idea started as a dream to provide unique South African hand crafts to the
American public thus leading us to the idea of a handcrafted chair with
durability, design and comfort in mind unlike other hanging chairs in today’s
marketplace.
In furthering our dream, we quickly came to realize that we could do so much
more. We realized we could help the less fortunate, but talented, South African
women in the community and have such a positive impact on their lives and the
community in which they live.
OUR LOGO
Our logo is the BAOBAB TREE
chosen because:
it is known as “the tree of LIFE”;
it is a well-known South African symbol; and
because of its strength.
The Baobab tree is unique and stands tall among all the trees of Africa. It
thrives in dry, arid conditions, usually alone, always different. For many it
appears to be turned upside down. It may not be pretty but it is practical, with
every part of the tree (the trunk, bark, leaves, fruit, seeds) being put to full
use. The Baobab tree may look stark but it is strong. It may look dead for much
of the year but it brings life at all times.
According to African legend, each animal was given a tree to plant by the Great
Spirit. The hyena, being angry because he was in the back of the line,
rebelliously planted the Baobab tree upside down and that’s why its branches
look like gnarled roots. The Baobab frequently measures 60 feet tall and 40 feet
across. These giants outlive nearly everything on earth with their life span
being over 1,000 years. Finally, an old tree dies and "collapses in on itself, a
melted heap of ruins." A seed sprouts, a new Baobab tree begins to grow and life
continues. It is the tree of LIFE.
Just as the baobab tree transforms into new life and continues to grow for many
generations, we hope that the impact of Alldays Trading on the economy and
lifestyle of its people in Alldays, South Africa and surrounding communities has
an everlasting effect and gives them strength.
